'The Making of A Lady...'
Hilarys ensemble consisted of 5 pieces, and although a lengthy project, was joy to do!
Hilary came to Uptight with a very specific design to be interpreted, it was from the series, 'The making of Lady' costume drama, based on in the 1880'-90's.
Ironically, this is the most 'weddingy' Uptight has gone, but this is costume of a wedding dress, rather than an actual wedding dress!
It consisted of an underwear corset, not cut specifically to period, more a modern interpritation to suit her figure, in ivory corset satin.
Then over this was cotton petticoat, then a silk shaped petticoat.... a fully silk lined dress in silk duchess satin and couture lace in sea pearl, with lots of beading, silk organza pleated sleeves, with lace cuff and silk buttons, and a thin silk satin belt, tiny delicate collar with lace trim...
...and lastly a beautiful silk duchesses satin coat, fully silk lined, with leg o' mutton sleeves with a lace frill, silk buttons on the collar and back and belt, with a gathered train!
It was a lovely challenge to go so period, and to get the proportions to scale, from a tiny actress to a tall Hilary...but I think I can safely say, we were both really pleased with how it turned out!
